On the Jobs

Introduced in 2021 and running until early 2023, the first season of Noggin’s On the Job (OTJ) series invites you into various workplaces and learn just how some people do their daily jobs.

The way On the Jobs typically work is that, after watching an embedded documentary video explaining the process of the given job, you then work through a series of smaller interactions that typically involve building some kind of material that is customizable (see below the possibility of choosing a different ice cream flavor). At the end of this experience, you are tasked with “Show What You Know” (SWYK) in a small interaction that tests what the player has learned.

Along the way, there is usually one larger, more complex interaction, which I always felt set OTJs apart from Missions. In Missions (see here), there are often a larger quantity of interactions, whereas in OTJs, there are less interactions, but several of them were eminently complex to create.
