PAVs

All of the projects that I worked on during my time at Noggin (2020-23) are considered “play-along videos” (PAVs). What this means is that these projects exist somewhere between a short form video and a game.

In building these experiences, working as an interactive editor (internally referred to as an “interactive author”) consisted of working alongside a portion of the project’s main team on a 4-6 week sprint timeframe. Some of the projects were worked on solo, but most were completed with one or two fellow interactive editors, with work divided amongst us.

At the start of the “interactive editing” / “authoring” kickoff, we would be given a series of assets and animations by the animation team and would get to work on Noggin’s Unity-based “authoring” tool PIE (“Platform for Interactive Experiences”) programming these assets into interactions. Doing so consisted of finding spots on the given source video where an interaction would take place, and then using the programmatic components in the tool to set up logic at such “keyframes” wherein which the experience would respond to player input.

One interactive editor would be designated lead, and would “own” the project (i.e. holding the main project file on his/her computer, running exports, and updating the project on Box and gitHub) whilst also being given the more straightforward of the experience’s interactions, whilst the other interactive editors would direct their primary focus on the more complex interactions.

I spent the vast majority of 2023 working on (as the “core” author for the entire scope of the project) a testing project called “Special Delivery,” which can be viewed below (top). The rest of my work can be seen by clicking inside the categorized pages below (from top left to bottom, “Noggin Knows Books,” “Big Heart Activity Books,” “School of Yum,” “On the Jobs,” “Missions,” “Alphaboogie,” and “Prototypes”)
