Learning Prompt: Listen to the letter sounds of the alphabet

Date Extension Completed: July 2022

Let’s dance around with some letters and learn the alphabet while we do!

An episode of Noggin’s “Literacy” series, Alphaboogie was initially released in May 2022 with a single set of letters to listen to and make dance. In June 2022, however, a small faction of the Alphaboogie team was tasked with expanding this set out to additional letter sets to make a more holistic learning experience.

Basically, after you complete Set 1, upon replay, you begin Set 2, then Set 3, and so on and so forth.

Me and two other interactive editors divided the work in threes, with Peter Klinkon serving as lead, managing and crafting extended user analytics for the experience, and collaborating in managing our macro schedule. Bianca Ignacio worked on the internal logic of the letter select interaction itself, which repeats itself across all sets, only with the chosen letters and their positions swapped for each item.

As for me, with an extended source video containing the content for all these new sets, I had to design a sequence of seek actions, with the video seeking from the main interaction to different spots in the source video depending on which set you are playing through, and where in the set you are. The final payoff interaction in which you pull the party ball also repeats, so I had to have the video seek to this specific spot on completion of each set, before then seeking back out to the resolution where you see the visual representation of what you have “made” with your letter selections.

Shots of the different sets themselves can be viewed below:
